Laptop Not Charging: Battery, Adapter or Port?

Step-by-step checks to find whether a laptop not charging is caused by the adapter, battery or charging port, and when to repair it.

Laptop Not Charging: Battery, Adapter or Port? – IndianTechHub, Jodhpur

A laptop that will not charge usually has one of three problems: the adapter, the battery or the charging port. These checks help narrow it down.

Quick checks

Try a different wall socket and check the adapter light
Look for cuts, kinks or heat damage on the adapter cable
Check the charging port for dust, bent pins or looseness
If you can, test with a compatible adapter of the same voltage and wattage
In Windows, run powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt to see battery health

What the signs mean

If the plug wobbles or charges only at an angle, the port is likely loose. If the laptop runs only on the adapter and dies when unplugged, the battery is weak. If nothing lights up at all, the adapter may have failed.

Safety

If the battery looks swollen or the laptop base bulges, stop using and charging it and have it checked by a technician.
